Preparation
- Shower before coming to the Buffalo Surgery Center
- Please remove jewelry (including your wedding band) before coming for your procedure.
- Other than Insurance Card and Photo ID, leave all other valuables including jewelry and purse at home.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing without metal (zippers, buttons)
- Let us know if you wear contact lenses, hearing aids, dentures or other assisted devices so that we may better care for you and them during your procedure. Please bring appropriate storage containers and solutions for contact lenses.
- If you develop a cold, fever, stomachache, diarrhea or any other illness, notify us and your doctor right away. Any other symptoms we should note
Arrival at the Buffalo Surgery Center (General or Endoscopy)
- Please remember to bring a photo ID, insurance card, copay, and any advance directives you may have available. If the patient is a minor or is unable to make decisions on their own behalf, please also bring a birth certificate or guardianship paperwork.
- Your procedure time may change. Occasionally, a procedure may take more or less time than we expect. Therefore, it is possible your procedure may start earlier or later in the day than the time you are scheduled. If there is a change in schedule, our staff will call to advise you of this.
- On the day of your procedure, please park near the Buffalo Surgery Center Building where your procedure will be taking place – the “general” Buffalo Surgery Center (for orthopaedic procedures) or the Buffalo Surgery Center – Endoscopy for gastroenterology & colorectal procedures. Both buildings are located on Excelsior Orthopaedics Medical Campus on Sheridan Drive in Amherst.
Post-Operative Care and Discharge
- After your procedure, you will be taken to the recovery area, where your progress will be closely monitored by our medical staff.
- You will remain in the recovery area until the medical staff clears you for discharge. Your time in recovery can vary depending on your progress.
- A nurse will review all discharge instructions with you and the person (adult) who is accompanying you before you leave Buffalo Surgery Center.
- Follow your doctor’s instructions and notify him or her in the event of any difficulty. If you feel it is an emergency situation, please go to the nearest emergency room.
